Grief.....
05.07.04 (5:30 pm)   [edit]
As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so a life well used brings happy death.
~Leonardo da Vinci

My precious mother-in-law passed away on Thursday evening, May 6, 2004 at approx. 9:20 p.m. CST of congestive heart failure (she was 72 years young). She went the way many dream of going, she just took fewer and fewer breaths until she just stopped breathing. She is going to be missed by her 3 daughters, 2 sons, 2 son-in-laws, 2 daughter-in-laws, 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

The hospital called the house and asked for my husband (power of attorney for his mother) who was out shopping with our son. I asked if everything was okay and they said, "I am sorry, she has just passed." I said, "NO, please don't tell me that!" as I fell to my knees. Then I said PLEASE DO NOT call my husband on his cell phone - do NOT call anyone else (I didn't want anyone to call him while he drove home). I said, "I will tell him." Well, 10 min. later my husband and son pull up and I take my husband into our room and say, "Honey, I am so sorry but your mother just passed away." He jumped back like I shot him and his eyes popped back and he said NO! cry...cry...cry... "I wanted to be there"!!! Then I had to tell our son... same response ... cry... cry... cry... - I loved on him. My dad and his wife came over to help last night...brought food and just were sounding boards ... very helpful. They left at midnight, I fell asleep finally at 3:30 a.m. and my husband after 4 a.m. He and our son left for AR (5 hour trip) at 8:30 a.m.

Well, that was my night last night. We were already preparing to see my mother-in-law this weekend because of her poor health. We wanted our kids to have another visit with her, knowing it would probably be our last. My husband told our 8yr. old daughter this morning cry ... cry... and more cry.... ! Lots of crying here  !

Well, I drive up with the girls by myself on Sunday ...Mother's Day! Funeral is on Tuesday and should be home on Wed. - What a way to start May!

Well goodnight all you bloggers in blogland.... please keep my family in your thoughts (and if you pray, in your prayers)......C

My Life.....

I've developed a new philosophy... I only dread one day at a time.
~Charlie Brown (Charles Schulz)

Things going on right now:

Mother-in-law in critical condition (congestive heart failure).
Grandmother now is in hospital - with (CHF too).
Aunt is having hysterectomy today.
Uncle is dying of cancer and had to stop treatment.

Still have my final on Thursday and I am sick and quite overwhelmed by all of the above.

Positive's

My kids are all healthy.
My dad is recovering from hip replacement surgery.
My brother is out of hospital and is fine.
My nephew called after no contact since he was a baby.
My husband is being helpful and supportive w/ school.

So, I am going to try to focus on the positives and leave the rest up to God to handle. At least try!

Goodbye all you bloggers in blogland......c

Marriage....
05.02.04 (6:32 pm)   [edit]
Marriage is an alliance entered into by a man who can't sleep with the window shut, and a woman who can't sleep with the window open.
~George Bernard Shaw

Wanted:

Male who is interested in my interests (even if they are not his own), passion (although not physicial - I am married you know), and possibly asks about me and my family (like I would do about yours).

Don't:

Act bored by my interest - even if you DO find them boring (I have news for you - yours may be boring too). My passion may be different too - different is okay. My nephew just called after 15 years of no contact - don't act like it is just like the old postman that is back on the route.

I just want a Soul Mate who will be interested in me and act like they care about things in my life - been feeling pretty neglected in this area for a long time!

Well at least my husband is being helpful while I finish this last week of school. I still have my 10 page paper due tomorrow and the final on Thursday (both on Chaucer). Oh, and I am getting sick, I am sure it is the stress. Just found out also that my brother is in the hospital with chest pains - a little worried about that (he is only 33 yrs. old).

Okay, well back to my paper!

Goodnight all you bloggers in blogland.....C

War and Iraqi prisoners...
04.30.04 (9:53 pm)   [edit]
Men are at war with each other because each man is at war with himself.
~Francis Meehan

I read this today:

Arab outrage flashed across the Middle East on Friday as TV stations showed graphic images of naked Iraqi prisoners being humiliated by smiling U.S. military police.

Now this is what I think:

US outraged over OUR U.S. military treating Iraqi prisoners in such a manner!

We are not barbarians! How dare we treat anyone in that fashion war or no war. If someone is captured or surrenders they are to be treated the way we expect our men to be treated if THEY were to be captured! HELLO, ever heard of the Geneva Convention??

I am so ANGRY :x !

Well bloggers...I have to get back to my Chaucer paper...I just had to write down my outrage or I would not be able to write or sleep tonight.

A special hug to G. - hope you got to go home to see your family this weekend!

Goodnight all you bloggers in blogland.....C

This Weekend Sucks.....
04.24.04 (6:36 pm)   [edit]
To have become a deeper man is the privilege of those who have suffered.
~Oscar Wilde

Well for starters last night it poured down rain and started to thunder so my husband and I ran into the girls room at 2 a.m. when a loud clap of thunder struck. What a way to wake up! Then as I am getting blankets to sleep on the FLOOR of our daughters room, I notice that the desk in the spare room is soaking wet and that drips are coming from the ceiling and dripping onto the keyboard of the computer! So I guess our ROOF has a leak! Next.......

My husband had to leave early this morning to be with his mother who is very sick. He called me later and said that she is NOT doing well at all. She has 2 major bed sores, is not eating and not going to the bathroom on her own. She is a WONDERFUL mother-in-law and I will be so sad to lose her. I am also sad to think of my younger kids (4 and 8 ) not having her around (at least my 15 yr. old has very good memories of their relationship and times together).
Next....

NOW my 4 yr. old is being fussy and needy - and I have two 10-12 page papers due next week and a final due the following week. My husband is not due back until Monday. My dad just had surgery a week ago and I have been helping out with him and am taking dinner over next week. Plus, I am the room mom and have to take part in the school carnival next Sat. from 1-7 p.m. plus get a gift basket ready and decorate, and my daughter has a game that day. Next Sunday evening we are having a gathering at our house that has been planned for awhile. I could go on but I better not linger in self pity for too long now.

I do know that it could be much worse. Gosh even my life 1 1/2 yrs. ago was unimaginable so I do know it COULD be worse. I just do NOT do well with anxiety, and I am on 3 meds. to help with that, and I still have it at times. I do have my therapy session on Wed. so that will help.

Oh, I guess I should mention a positive....my son is very helpful with his sisters and we met my sister-in-law for dinner after she took my 8 yr. old shopping (and spent LOTS of money on clothes for her - she spoils my daughter horribly...I love it  ).

Now I am going to try to salvage the rest of the night and my mood by watching this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0... with my kids. I will work on my paper later tonight (I do my best work late anyway).

Thanks for listening all you bloggers in blogland :D ......C

I am back....

And the night shall be filled with music,
And the cares that infest the day
Shall fold their tents like the Arabs
And as silently steal away.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Our night was filled with music...our 8 yr. old daughter's talent show was tonight. She sang "Somewhere over the Rainbow" without any accompaniment. It was beautiful - I am not just saying that because she is my daughter .... although I would.. it is just that many other adults told us the same thing. I would say that some gushed...yes, even gushed. Well I can say she DOES NOT get the voice from me... her dad is the one with the set of pipes. HE CAN SING! He even sang to me at our wedding....very romantic.

Well, anyway I know I have been gone awhile. My dad had surgery and I am at the end of school as well as being the room mom for my daughter's 2nd grade class. It is so busy here. I only get on the computer to check the 4 blogs that I read daily...they are all very different but VERY important to me for some reason. It is like they are my friends but yet we have never met and 2 I have never even e-mailed (only made a couple of comments). But, none the less they are part of my daily life and I think about them and pray for them. It makes me wonder if anyone will ever come across my site and get to KNOW me through my journal.... worry when I haven't written in a while....I wonder.

Goodnight all you sweet bloggers in blogland.....C

Going on a Jet Plane....
04.08.04 (7:21 pm)   [edit]
There are only two emotions in a plane: boredom and terror.
~Orson Welles

Well, we leave for Florida tomorrow morning bright and early. My husband's Dad lives there and is not in the best of health. The kids have Fri. and Mon. off from school so we are taking advantage of that. We are flying standby so it should be fun :? . Not that I am not thankful for that luxury, it is just that it can be so inconvenient sometimes. Anyway, I will be gone until at least Monday. Will you miss me???? :(

Well, finally I finished my paper :D - of course I was up until 3 a.m. last night and had to finish the last paragraph today. I hate that I do my best work from 11 p.m. - 2 a.m. what is up with that??? Anyway, it is done!!! The paper's title was "The European Influence and Vagabond Lifestyle of Claude McKay" - sound interesting? It is actually the rough draft for the 2000 word paper due at the end of the month.

Well, I have to tell you about my 4 yr. old this morning. Of course I was already not in the best of moods with my lack of sleep when she came screaming into my bathroom as I was getting ready. What was she screaming about you ask - her cheese slice broke into 3 pieces instead of 2! Is there such a thing as cheese glue because I sure needed it this morning!!!

Last little note for a kudos to me - even though I was dead today I did my room parent bit at my 8 yr. old's school. I handled the party as well as hid the eggs for 21 kids! I am glad I am the room parent because my daughter was so happy and said "Thank you Mommy for coming and making the party so nice - I am so glad you are our room parent". Oh, it made my heart glad. I do realize how lucky I am to be able to do this right now though - in a few years I will be teaching at a High School and doubt I will be able to make the parties! But, today was a good day! :D

Well ya'll have a GREAT Easter and I will be back Mon. or Tues. - goodbye all you bloggers in blogland......C

A day at the zoo....
04.05.04 (8:15 pm)   [edit]
Animals are such agreeable friends - they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms.
~George Eliot

Well today I took my 4 yr. old daughter to the zoo. We had a wonderful time. I have to say we have the best zoo in our area. It is so fun for the kids. We rode the train first and then saw about 1/3 of the animals. We only spent about 3 hrs. there today. I was so proud of her - she walked the whole time and didn't complain about being tired - yeah! I think I liked the kangaroo's the best. My daughter said she liked ALL the animals. We had to leave a little early because the middle child had to be picked up at school with a bad headache (allergy related I think). Anyway, it was just the little one and I - no friends so I was able to give her ALL of my attention - Mother of the Month perhaps??

Well, I was going to go to CURVES to work out but I have TWO BIG blisters from the zoo walking. I AM going to work out tomorrow though - blisters or not. I figured at least today I was moving a lot - it is hard work keeping up with a 4 yr. old!

Well, tomorrow it is back to school - I go on Tues. and Thurs. I have an essay due on Thurs. although I still have not received my LAST one back (from THREE weeks ago). I am finding this semester very difficult. I just want it to be over and have the summer to play with my kids! Well, I guess I better get my brain rest for tomorrow!

Here is a link to Stupid Laws in Texas - thought it was fun - it can take you to your state too - Enjoy! http://www.dumblaws.com/state... click on the (no thanks, I'd just like to continue reading dumblaws.com)

Goodnight you bloggers in blogland....C :)

To everyone's health....
04.03.04 (10:13 pm)   [edit]
One of the most sublime experiences we can ever have is to wake up feeling healthy after we have been sick.
~ Rabbi Harold Kushner

This is my prayer for Gabriel and Savannah. One is online and one is off. So if you pray, please pray healing for them - if not that is okay, just think positive healthy thoughts their way :) .

I just watched this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0... and enjoyed it. I really like Julia Roberts and found it an easy going movie. Everyone else is asleep so it was nice to chill out and watch a chick flick - since I am a chick  .

Oh, HUGE NEWS..... I have now worked out FOUR DAYS IN A ROW!!!!!!!!!!! GO ME, GO ME, GO, GO, GO ME! I am so proud of myself.....can you tell? To top that off, my daughter (8 yr. old) won her 3rd soccer game - they are undefeated....she was told she is excellent at defense and goalie. Oh, how it just makes a mother proud when someone talks positive about your child without knowing you are the parent. "wow, look at #2 go, she is so good" - yea, that's MY GIRL!!! :D !

Okay, enough with the bragging. It says 12:06 a.m. but it is actually 1:06 a.m. thanks to daylight savings time (which I LOVE more evening light - but HATE losing an hour of SLEEP!). I must go night night now.

Good night all you bloggers out there.......C

Hardest Job in the World...
04.02.04 (7:21 pm)   [edit]
Children begin by loving their parents; as they grow older they judge them; sometimes they forgive them.
~Oscar Wilde

Being a parent is the hardest job in the world. I know, I am the mother of three! From frantic four to terrible teenager and one in between. Sometimes the four year old and the teenager act a lot alike - it's true! It is amazing the temper tantrums that both can have - I should have a contest sometime  .

Actually the reason for this blog is that my teenage son just informed me he is concerned for his friend because he might start having s*x  (I can't even spell it - it scares me so much). So I am thinking is this his way of telling me HE is close to having s*x???

Something for me to think about as I try to sleep tonight!

Well, I am going to try to forget it in the mean time by watching this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0... The girls are in bed and the teenager is spending the night at a friends house - hey maybe I may get a little of the above
 - well I am married and of age!

Good night all - wish me luck!

EXERCISE.......
04.01.04 (8:04 pm)   [edit]
Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it.
~Plato

Two days in a row! Yes, I have exercised two days in a row - it is a miracle. Actually it is all thanks to a place called CURVES http://www.curvesinternationa... :D . Now it is just for women, so you guys can't sign up - sorry. My husband wants to file a discrimination suit  not before I lose a few inches  ! Anyway, all I have to say is GIRL POWER!!! :!:

Okay, next subject - might be a little controversial  . I was in my African American Lit. class the other day and we were talking about what makes a man masculine. We said that power makes a man masculine. Someone else said that sexuality makes a man masculine. Someone said what if a man is impotent  , does it make him not masculine? A few girls said he is not as masculine because he would not feel as masculine. I am not a man of course but I know that if my husband became impotent  that I would not think he was less masculine because of it. It might affect his self esteem but his masculinity??? Well next came some comments from some black girls that had me really wondering about how discrimination works. They said that if they find out that a guy they use to think was masculine is homosexual they no longer find them masculine :x . Hmmm. Come on now, we have all seen some pretty masculine gay men, HELLO - ROCK HUDSON - well in his time at least! Now let me say that two of the girls did not say anything else about homosexuality but the other girl has let the whole class know her opinion on the matter! I just find it interesting that one who fights against discrimination would be one to discriminate. Just something that made me think. Now I should state that I am a Christian … but who are ANY of us to judge (Jesus tells us this IN the bible). Well, I don’t want to make this blog about debates but it is just a thought I had today – I hate fighting over politics and religion. I love all colors and sexes!

PEACE TO ALL!!! - your friend from Texas :D

My fabulous day.....

[Advice Is] What You Ask For When You Already Know The Answer But Wish You Didn't.
Erica Jong

Okay so I did two very productive things for myself today, I worked out :P and I went to see my therapist. I feel great about both. I have not exercised in over a year it seems like (21 days to make it a habit). However I saw my therapist last week. He is just so wonderful and insightful! I always leave feeling so refreshed and like I really learned something new about myself. Sometimes it is like my quote today though – I already know what he is going to say – I don’t like those days  . Today was a good one though :D!

I talked with my African American Literature teacher yesterday and feel much better. I think we understand each other a little better. I did find out of at least four other students that are making C’s on their papers too – BUT I am an A student darn it :x (okay got that off my chest).

Well my sister-in-law and niece are coming in tomorrow and so I must begin to clean the house a bit. Hope everyone else is having a nice day like me! - See you on the morrow - lady lone star

Texas Trivia....

Mid Pleasures And Palaces Through We May Roam, Be It Ever So Humble, There's No Place Like Home.
John Howard Payne (1791 - 1852)

Howdy y’all, thought I would give you a little Texas Trivia….

The state flower is the beautiful bluebonnet.

The state bird is the mockingbird.

The official state tree is the Pecan tree.

Texas's state insect is the beautiful monarch butterfly.

The state motto is "friendship".

The state large mammal is the Longhorn.

Texas's official dance is the square dance.

The official dish of Texas is chili.

The Armor-plated armadillo is the offical state small mammal (which reminds me of a joke – why did the chicken cross the road?????…………………….. to show an armadillo that it could be done  you have to live in Texas to get that I guess!).

The Alamo is a Spanish mission and was the first mission established in San Antonio, in 1718.

Six flags have flown over Texas: Spain, France, United Mexican States, Confederate States of America, the Republic of Texas and the United States of America.

Texas was annexed to the United States as the 28th state on December 29, 1845.

On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated during a motorcade through downtown Dallas.

Dr Pepper was invented in Waco in 1885. The Dublin Dr Pepper, 85 miles west of Waco, still uses pure imperial cane sugar in its product. There is no period after the Dr in Dr Pepper. - Yummy, one of my favorite drinks!

Texas possesses three of the top ten most populous cities in the United States. These towns are Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.

Texas comes from the Hasinai Indian word tejas meaning friends or allies. - We are friendly :D !!!

So, if this all sounds interesting to you and you want to visit, you better come by before we build the wall around Texas!

Goodnight

Spring is in the air.....
03.29.04 (8:35 pm)   [edit]
Spring Is When Life's Alive In Everything.
Christina Rossetti (1830 - 1894)

Yea...Spring is here!!! I just love Spring in Texas. Of course it only lasts about 2 weeks before it is about 100 degrees and it feels like summer - but today it is SPRING!!! I spent the morning taking care of myself - a little mental health help if you will. I got a manicure and pedicure. It was so nice - they even have a back massager on the chair you sit on during the pedicure. I am a happy girl now :D! This might last at least until tomorrow when I go to my class that my teacher keeps giving me C's on my papers :x ...but today I was
happy . Even my little 4 yr. old was happy when I picked her up. I asked her if she was fussy when she woke up from her nap at school and she said, "no mommy, I woke up whistling." Isn't that just so cute???!!!???

Well I have a great Recipe for an appetizer:

1 stick cream cheese
1 can chili (ex. wolf’s brand w/ meat - any kind of chili)
shredded cheddar cheese

Layer the cream cheese/chili/cheese in an approx. 8x8 dish
Heat on 350 until the cheese is bubbling.
Serve with scoop fritos, corn chips, or crackers
You can use fat free or low fat chili and use chili w/ beans
It is so good!!

P.S. for a fun (but safe) time - go to http://www.weebls-stuff.com/t...
and go to badgers at the bottom
and have the volume on!

See you tomorrow!

All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure.
Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)

Had a fondue date with my hubby last night - no kids yea :D! Got a call at 12:40 a.m. from a boy calling for our teenage son who was VERY RUDE when told not to call so late :x! Problem is my husband's mom is in ICU right now and we keep thinking any call in the night is a "your mom just died" call! Teenager's now
days  - you guys be nice . Well, I do try to remember how I was as a teen - sometimes it is hard though.

Anyway, just got back from church and going to spend some time with my 8 yr. old now. Have a great day all!

Okay so I love scary movies but this one REALLY scared me http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0...! I was fine during the first half - last half I watched THROUGH my blanket (I could see shadows). The music was enough to make my heart pound. I do not like to see things like this  or something always jumping out at me. My heart is STILL pounding - But I LOVED it  ! It was a pretty good movie.

This was weird...

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.
Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)

I am currently enrolled in Chaucer and African American Literature classes at a nearby University, majoring in Literature. It is hard being the oldest in the class (36 yrs.) - sometimes older than the teacher, as well as having three kids. Son (15), Daughter (8 ), Daughter (4). My goal is to be a High School Literature Teacher - only 2-4 more years to go (since I have to go part time). I am about to be a senior. Well I am going to be 4 years older anyway right??!!?? Have a great night all!
